Are sabbaticals a common benefit in today’s workplace? It’s something I value long term, and I’d like to understand how often companies support this.

Not in the US it’s not. You can quit and take some time between jobs or do contract work but I have only ever heard of one company that gave paid sabbaticals (Charles Schwab) and I don’t think even they do it anymore.

That’s a valuable insight. It would be great to see sabbatical leave gain more recognition across the labour force. Thanks for the feedback.

I haven’t worked anywhere that offers sabbaticals, and I don’t think they’re very common. That said, it would be amazing to work somewhere that did.

Same here, I haven’t. It came up in a virtual meeting with friends in Europe, and I thought it would be great if it were obtainable here too. Thanks for your thoughts.

Not common in my experience. I only know of a handful of companies that offer them. And to qualify for one, you typically have to put in at least 5 years with the company, if not more.

I’ve had friends who’ve contributed professionally to their companies for over five years, yet sabbaticals were never discussed. Are there other criteria required to qualify for one? Thanks for the feedback

Bank of America has a sabbatical program starting at yr 15 of service. You are allowed to take two in your tenure. You get to decide to take it or not to take. There are some guidelines. You get full pay but your annual incentive is doc’d for the year you take your sabbatical - they started this about 3 yrs ago. It’s an amazing perk!

Fifteen years is remarkable. Do universities also provide sabbatical opportunities, both for academic and administrative staff?

Hard so too . How long does it normally take to meet the requirements for a sabbatical? Thanks for the feedback

Sabbaticals are definitely more of a European standard, and it’s a shame they aren't as common in the US yet. However, don't let the 'official' policy stop you. If you’ve built up strong results and have a good relationship with leadership, there’s usually room to negotiate a custom arrangement.

Thanks , That’s a helpful perspective. I’ve noticed the European market tends to normalize sabbaticals more structurally, whereas in the US it feels more discretionary. I agree that performance and credibility likely play a big role in whether leaders are open to a custom arrangement. If you’ve successfully negotiated one outside of formal policy, was it framed more as retention, burnout prevention, or long-term career development?

Most companies who do participate in it require 5 years of service. However, I know this benefit has been dropped from several organizations over the last few years.

That aligns with what I’ve seen as well. The five-year milestone seems to be the most common threshold, when it exists at all. It’s interesting that some organizations are scaling it back, especially with the increased focus on well-being and retention. Do you think it’s being replaced with more flexible PTO models, or just phased out entirely in most cases?

Been with an Asphalt and Concrete contractor in suburban Chicagoland for a little over 2 years now, and am going into a compensation discussion tomorrow after informing my boss I no longer wish to be on a draw.

Current comp plan is as follows:
Salary- ~48k w/ draw up to about 80k, full OTE with commissions should be ~170000, this is all increased by kickers every 250k in sales that increase commission/draw

My questions is if the draw is removed, how much salary should I be asking for?

Career advice that I give to the people I manage- do one more thing everyday that you weren’t going to do or didn’t feel like doing- for your team or for your client. Could be notes, a follow up, a reminder, raising your hand to tackle and drive something-whatever. That little extra effort against something you didn’t “have” to do, every day, overtime will make you invaluable

[Facebook Ads Data VS Google Analytics Data] 🤯

How can I merge FB and GA data? Some clients of mine believe that Facebook doesn't bring us results 'cause GA says so. The difference between the two of them is A LOT. Facebook says we have 100 conversions and GA only reports 2. How can I prove to them that Facebook does its job? What data can I show?
