I think buffets are efficient and people can get what they actually want to eat. As a guest, I prefer them.
We had a buffet and I wouldn’t have had it any way. However, our meals were plated for us.
any other way*
I agree, as long as they manage it so only one or 2 tables goes at once. No one wants to wait in a long line.
I like buffets and wouldn’t give it a second thought
Not tacky in the right setting and saves you from having to get people to RSVP with dinner selections. For context, we had an outdoor garden party type wedding. Dress code was cocktail attire and the buffet fit right in. If you’re doing something more formal than the buffet might feel a little out of place
Buffet with servers doling out the food is acceptable. Self-service buffet is ok for a very casual wedding.
Addendum: black tie should be a seated dinner with servers.

buffets are the best way to serve a lot of people quickly and have their food actually be hot. They can skip the parts they don't like. IMO hard to beat a buffet with a beef carving station. They release people by table so no waiting. and for a large wedfing you run multiple serving lines. Buffet does require more room at the venue
I would agree, if you are having a blacktie wedding, then sit down, formal/cocktail a served buffet is fine.(IMO)
Seated also means you have to eaither serve everyone the same dinner option, have them select from a menu when they arrive ( slow and expensive for a large group) , or gather all that info beforehand and assign seats by person not just by table. Lots more work for you and additional expense of individual place cards.
I agree. I’m pro-buffet as well!
Attended 7 weddings last summer - I agree buffet makes the event less elegant if you have more than 75 guests to feed. Lines can get out of hand quickly
