Coming from a mid regional firm, I got exposed to almost every type of return my office worked on during my first year, 1040s, 1120/s, 1065, 1041 and some 990s, barely gift tax tho - no foreign returns at this pt for a first yr. I got to expressed what I enjoyed going into 3rd yr and will try to focus on those more but I still get to touch a wide range as noted above where help is needed.

It depends per office. I work on pass through a lot.

As a tax associate I saw mainly passthrough financial services. REITS, hedge funds, private equity, PFICs

One year and a half, worked on a couple huge M&A deals, exposure to a bunch of international tax, pretty much every type of return imaginable, supported the tax side of an audit... make sure youre pushing to get the exposure you want

I think I read about some kind of process where when an applicant reaches out to a current student or alum for a 1:1 and makes a good impression, the student/alum can send a message to the adcom letting them know? Is it like a "Hey I connected with this applicant and had a great conversation with them. I think they would be a great fit for the program" type of thing?
