As a teacher with a summer birthday, I always think it’s a bummer that I don’t get to be with students. But it is nice to not have to go to work on my birthday!! I guess in SPED we don’t really have room moms to decorate our door or things like that. Do you have students do things for your birthday during the school year?

I never really do anything big for my birthday at school but I feel like the students are always so excited when they find out it's someone's birthday, so it's always fun to see their excitement. Usually my students end up making me a birthday card which is really sweet of them!

That’s really sweet! I love keeping the things that students have made for me. Maybe I’ll just start celebrating my birthday at the end of the school year!

HAPPY SUMMER BIRTHDAY 🎂 🥳 🎉

No, because title reading doesn't have anyone either. At a previous school, I made sure students sang "Happy Birthday" to every single teacher. I even dedicated a day at the end of the year to summer birthdays. The students loved celebrating the teachers. I usually did it with a signed card and a cupcake for each teacher. It really helped our school culture and presented a united front to the students, too.
I hope you enjoy your summer birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊

Thank you so much!! 🥰❤️🥰

Wow! that’s so nice of you to make sure that everyone was celebrated. That must have taken a lot of effort. I can definitely see why it would contribute to the culture of the school. And a great way to have the students give back to the staff. People love feeling recognized on their birthday! 💕

Just celebrate your half birthday instead.

My half birthday is in the middle of Christmas break 😂 but I could definitely do it before or after the break. That’s not a bad idea!

No summer birthdays are amazing!!! My birthday is right around Memorial Day and I’m lucky that I normally have it off because we have an extended break (Thursday-Monday), but this year my birthday was on that next Tuesday so there was just no way I could take a day off after a break. I would always rather spend my birthday alone treating myself or with family, never ever EVER working - regardless of how sweet my class is.

Happy birthday :) enjoy your day!!

like

Oh that’s a nice birthday to have then!! Darn that it didn’t work out this year. But at least you had a good break before!

I do enjoy having a summer birthday because I get to spend it with my own kids, which is always nice.

Thank you for the birthday wishes!!🥰❤️

Hey folks. Question for the majority of us still under the big 3 holding co’s...are raises a thing anymore? I’ve been at my (smaller) agency almost 5yrs and got one raise (a nice $12k bump) during that time—is that sufficient? Is one increase in that span normal? I also recognize being somewhere 5 years is rare these days. The honeymoon period at any agency seems to be 2.5—3yrs before bolting. Not complaining, just asking. Have y’all been getting raises/bumps in any kind of regular cycle? Thx.

I feel like I'm at my wits end. I teach self-contained classes and according to the ISBE website my classes shouldn't be more than 8 students unless I have an aide - then it can be 10.
