High school special class (self-contained) teachers: What do you use for planning? I’ve always been an inclusive teacher, so I followed the plan book of my co-teacher. I can’t even decide if I should go digital or paper-based let alone make a final decision! I’ll be teaching 9-11th grade math and 11th grade science. The 11th grade classes I can very much do whatever I (or the student) want/need…there isn’t a set curriculum

 I heard a commercial on the radio for Verizon that said something to the effect that parents are now learning how to lesson plan. Are any of you off the hook for lesson planning? Just wondering because I’m over here busting my butt!

What’s your favorite lesson/strategy?

Hello! I work in change management and am assigned to an IT POM transformation. I’m still in my fact finding/change readiness analysis phase, but struggling with the senior leadership team. Does anyone have any lesson learned or best practices in eliciting feed back from senior leaders? think SVP and above? I thought about focus groups, but their time is limited. Also, survey response rate tends to be low for these guys. Any ideas???

Lesson learnt:

Using declare, set function in SQL and in my declare function I am returning the following error:
“Cannot coerce expression (SELECT SUM(…”

Can’t find anywhere as to what this error means.

Although when I run the set query by itself, the sql does run correctly. But the error seems to occur when I add the SET function and using an open and close parenthesis around the query I am setting my
Variable to. Any idea as to what is causing this error?

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Has anyone has success scheduling all your IEPs for the year in the first month of school? It will be a new requirement for next year.

When your resource group is more than 5 or 6 students and they are all at different levels AND you only have them for 20 to 30 mins.....how do you make the most use of your time? How can you work towards their individual goals as well as fill in gaps in learning when there is 8 to10 students that are at different levels of learning and all require some level of assistance in order to complete even simple tasks? Feeling a little overwhelmed today.

What cheat sheets do you all use for writing IEP goals? Is it from the district?

How long do you spend on core subjects if not a goal on IEP? So if most goals are life skills (putting shoes on, zipping, etc.) how long would you spend on math during math hour or how much do you worry about writing activities if they can’t write etc?

How do you approach a stinky middle school kid or their parents with hygiene suggestions? I don’t know how to politely tell anyone that they smell bad.

I am also being released, however my school has told me that I can come back once i accomplish the tasks I need to accomplish.
For people that are on the fence about the industry, I tell them to try another district. You know what you did and didn't like about your school so you can go in armed to see what another school is like. Don't be afraid to see the school, ask for a tour, talk to the teachers. Sky's the limit!

Any suggestions for middle school student planners to help students stay organized and remember to complete assignments? Is best to purchase a planner or organize a binder?

I need your help, please. I have a student who simply does not stay on track unless an adult is monitoring him. His quizzes go unfinished and writing assignments are put aside to browse online.
I also would like to ask if there is a way to prevent him from browsing other websites online during instructional time?

I am open to suggestions on how to keep him on track during Math and Writing assignments. Any assistance with this would be helpful.

Without warning it looks like we'll be switching from consultant teaching to inclusion...what do I need to know. I am trying to write a stock letter to send to parents everyday that their child does not come to virtual learning sessions. I have been told by administration that even though I have spoken to parents and know why students are not coming to zoom classes, that we still need to contact them everytime they dont come. For some of my students this is everyday due to parent work schedules and disability issues.
Is anyone else having this trouble? What are you saying to parents to cover yourself?

HELP! 30+ years of teaching Sped and I’m at a loss. 6th grade student in Middle School with Doose syndrome. Prior to MS, the elementary said he never caused problems. Since the 1st day, he is disruptive in class, refuses to work, and is disrespectful. He has a one-on-one para but she is in tears most days because of his behavior. Parents agreed with a behavior plan - he thinks it’s a game. Parents say he is not allowed to be this way at home.
