As we head into the holidays, I’m curious how the insurance world really handles this time of year because on one hand claims don’t stop, but on the other hand many teams are short staffed, burned out, or trying to actually unplug for once. For those of you in insurance, do the holidays feel like a true slowdown, or just the same workload squeezed into fewer working days?

I carry the load so my team can enjoy the time with friends and family. It's just my wife and I so it's not like we have a huge family, so I log in remotely and forward the office phones to my work cell... We're not a super large agency so it's not like we have thousands of customers, I figure it's the least I can do since they give me 110% all year long.

A lot of the claims don't get reported until the first week of the year. So it feels like the same just an extra 2 days off. That first week after new years is a doozie though

We have a lot of vacation blackout days pre and post holiday season, most in Jan. For the claims analysts. But the company is pretty generous with holidays off and things are low key. The claims keep rolling in especially because it's end of year so they have to be in before the next benefit period starts for a lot of claimants but we catch up with the black out periods.

Hi all! Is anyone here in Underwriting? Just want some thoughts on this as i’ve recently gotten an offer for an Underwriting Associate position and have never done any salary negotiations before. Does it seem unrealistic for my counter offer to be 12k more than the original offer? Considering that the original offer is roughly 8k less than the market salary. Plus i’m also accounting for wiggle room as i’m not expecting them to actually agree with the full 12k counter offer
