I have a guy in Thailand that does a lot of expat health insurance. I have always wanted to move to Asia and have heard that Jakarta is a hidden gem.
For expats it can be quite high, especially if you rent in the middle / cbd areas and dine out a lot. But the social gap is very high here. People can live with as low as IDR 5mio/mo ($350) or as high as 30x of that number. But find yourself a native friend and ask him/her to get you around (places to stay, good/cheap foods). Having said that, the cost of living is way below Singapore/Japan/Australia. Minus: - Bad traffic / motorcycle, so be careful on the street - Many thieves / beggars on the street, so you wouldn’t want to make a call on the street, or put your laptop in your car parked outside, etc Plus: - Generally people will treat expats nicer than they treat local people, we are a very nice and easygoing people 😅 - as in many developing countries, our gov have many homeworks but I would say we’re going the right way with the current government. - The growth of businesses, especially tech startups are quite good over here, many opportunities and great places to work
Thanks for all of the great insights. I’m assuming English is widely spoken in most developing regions. I like to drive motorcycles but I’m sure the constant noise and smell can be problems with pollution.
