I'd assume the sexual promiscuity far in the past? Are you both born again baptized by the Holy Spirit now? If pursuing an equally yoked marriage I'd stray far away from new believers especially any still struggling with sexual immorality of any form. Bible says FLEE temptation and throw off the sin that so easily entangles so use wisdom in the situation. I'd say any more than 1 sin is deathly serious because that's literally what sin is its separation from God yet we all fall short and there is grace..
The number of times someone has fornicated isn't as concerning as if they don't have a sincerely repentant heart response before God regarding that and any sin really.
I’m a woman and I have a high body count. I went through a lot of rough times growing up and fell into a really dark place at one point in my life. I’ve done a lot of things I regretted including giving myself to many people. After I got the help I needed and turned back to God, I no longer live such life. At times I still feel icky about my past self but I know God has forgiven me and I need to forgive myself. I believe the amount of partners we sleep with is not the actual problem but the underlying reason. Usually there’s a deeper issue relating to lack of self-confidence, self-love, or even trauma. And then find out if any of the underlying issues still exist and see if the person truly has changed. I would hope the person i date next will extend that grace to me.
My husband was my first but he had others. When we had kids, I was grateful for his experience and he could give our kids a different viewpoint on why it wasn’t “harmless” when teenagers was to have sex with each other.
I think it does matter, but It depends on so much. Each person’s story is different.
If they are asking you to fornicate before marriage, it's not going to matter...you'll be added to the body count.
Well, if God forgives us and welcomes us into His kingdom regardless of our sins, we should certainly extend grace to our potential spouse.
Thank you for your wisdom D1
I may be concerned with a count over 10. In the past, 5 would be maximum but as @BCG mentioned said , every person’s story is different.
No it doesn't as many of us grew up in a culture that didn't teach us the truth about sex and sexual intimacy. Many young people make mistakes. Even those that knew better can sin. As others have said, as long as they've repented and are committed to doing the right thing now, it would bother me slightly (how could it not? I am human after all) but I would absolutely be willing to see past it and work through my emotions.
Agree. Past sin (assuming it is) is past and forgiven. I think your ability to see the redeemed person reflects the grace of the gospel. I'm in a similar place, so I know it can be challenging at times. But I'm overwhelmingly grateful that God brought them to me.
A way to look at it: in Bible there’s no mention of contract or legal marriage, in olden times when , most marriages are “God/ Angel told one person to go to some place and there will be a girl waiting for him and his wife knew that person was coming” they “slept with eachother and then went to a far away land to do as God pleased and stayed with one another for life. Which means that when they slept together “two becoming one” was considered marriage/ union. Even about wedding party there’s only mention of one father that drank and danced after his daughter was wedded off. With time as humans became disloyal is when contracts were needed to protect assets, provide security, etc. And it says it is a sin to leave your husband and wife. Meaning once you sleep with someone you’re unionized with them and hence once you leave them and go to another you’ve already committed adultery and sin. So by that one should only have one sexual partner/ spouse by spiritual sense.
Also remember that marriage is the earthly symbol of our union with God, the wedding feast of the lamb. That union God never breaks but we as children of God constantly break. Adultery and faithfulness are compared throughout the Bible. Also, the creation story in Genesis where woman is generated from man's side shows that the unity of becoming one flesh is prescribed by God.
Lol only commenting to follow. Not sure I understand the question so I want to see others responses haha
The past is behind us. If you look back with anything more than history, you're losing focus of moving forward
