Not recently, but CS Lewis' Mere Christianity is one of my all time favorites.
If anybody has reading suggestions on the ontological/philosophical explanation of God, I'd happily take them. Something that explains*why*God exists or should exist
I just finished this 2 months ago and highly recommend it. I listened to it on audible which was interesting as it was originally created as a serial radio program that aired in the UK during WWII.

I’d also add, Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem will do more for your understanding of God and the Christian faith than any other book I know of (other than the Bible). Read it cover to cover, all 1100 pages, and you will never regret it. Time well spent to be sure.
I’ll start - “Delighting in the Trinity” by Michael Reeves
At Data Architect 1: actually, Delighting in the Trinity might have what you’re looking for. It explains how each person of the Trinity must exist in union with the rest. Both before and for all time. They cannot exist independently of each other, the one makes the existence of the others necessary. As far as philosophical arguments concerning Gods existence, Aquinas is a classic author on the subject. Conversely, Kierkegaard would be an interesting read as well, arguing that one cannot prove God’s existence other than by what creation makes plainly evident - essentially Gods existence is only manifested and believed by those to whom he reveals himself
I'm data architect 1. Thanks op for the suggestions, I ended up going with a book by Alvin Planting called The Nature of Necessity, which is exactly what I've been looking for
