At 17, my restaurant jobs taught me hard lessons. McDonald’s ended due to relocation. Smoothie World was mostly janitorial work, not cashiering as promised. Raising Cane's started well, but unprofessional management and arbitrary scheduling led me to a leave. Popeyes was appalling. Unprofessional management and unsanitary conditions such as bugs and a rat were rampant. which led to me leaving! For everyone else trying to apply for restaurant job please be mindful of the environment !

Definitely agree with all of that! I learned tons of lessons at restaurants. What to look for, what to watch out for, and job skills that are great transferable skills when I want to work somewhere else.

When renting a condo from an owner, I was asked to pay a $150 move-in fee to the building which I thought makes sense, but then I am being told to also pay a $500 non refundable move in fee to the owner but he is not wanting a security deposit. Is this normal? Seems like $500 down the drain but not sure if this is normal

Please help! I'm looking for writing terminology. At our agency, we are getting more into creative writing vs ... executional writing? Please help me find the right term. Creative means developing the big idea (concepting), writing scripts and headlines with flair, etc.) for an awareness "hook" and then the other camp, which includes brochures, one pagers, banner ads, sales sheets.

What should we call the other type of writing? (Cont in comments)

This is my first recession as a working adult. Is there anything specific one should do to prepare? But ibonds? We typically invest ~$8K a month into a brokerage (already have an emergency fund in actual cash but it’s maybe 2 months cash), but wondering if I should stack a bit more cash?

No worries about job loss or anything in the recession, just trying to see what others investment advice in this time would be.

So I'm fairly new to the restaurant business; only in like 4 years (only two concepts). Both have been pure chaos that causes so much stress and anxiety. Is this industry wide or am I just unlucky with the 2 concepts I've experienced so far?

I had quite the day the other day. Coustmer comes in and then ends up leaving with a grossed out look on his face just for him to put in a complaint about my appearance...he down right called me some nasty things for no reason. Still feeling gross about it. He was upset for no reason as far as I'm concerned.

Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.

I work as an AGM in a busy restaurant. Been working there for just over a year, and haven't had a single raise. Should I try to negotiate a raise or look for other opportunities?

If I should negotiate, any tips?
