Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.

what?? that sounds borderline criminal, we need to reform our work laws like yesterday that's uncacceptable

like

Thanks for the life tip. Always research laws that affect you. I would hate to be caught in any situation like this.

like

Are you sure about that? This article on Iowa law says you're entitled to overtime: https://www.higginslawiowa.com/employment-law/wages-hours-overtime/

ugh that's so gross, they just get to take advantage of us with little repercussions

Gross, we need stronger worker protections all across the board now

Goodluck

I had no idea this was a thing. Thankfully, my boss is a cool guy and he pays overtime if we work extra hours. We're a small team and he knows that if he were to pull some stuff like this, we would all quit.

This is the type of thing that makes me vote democrat every single time. We need to get all our workers rights for them to be able to perform how companies need them. You can't tell me you had someone work almost 20 extra hours and you won't pay a bit extra for that.

No extra pay, no extra hours!

Allow me to also clarify, the employee count has to be under like 50 or 100. I was rereading my notes earlier.

I covered for an employee that had a medical emergency, no clue this was even a thing! I'm 42, NEVER heard of not being paid time and a half for hours over 40.

They did specify it is state specific. As stated check your states laws and make sure you're educated. I never thought to even consider it could ever happen. Live and learn.
