I think the key to that is to keep your answer short and sweet. No need for your whole bio, just where you grew up, where you went to school, where you're working, that sort of thing. Just a minute or two so the person has some idea of who you are and might establish a rapport with you. If you've got a fun fact to drop in, that's fine too, if you ran a marathon or fought in a war or played a professional sport or whatever.
I always have a brief synopsis that incorporates both. A little bit of professional, a little bit of personal, and a little bit of personality. They just wanted to get a quick idea of who you are and how you're different from everybody else.
They want to know relevant experience
A lot of these experiences are transferable to other jobs
All they want is to know about your relevant experience and what about your previous history will make you a good fit for the job you're interviewing for. They do not care about your personal life or hobbies. Everything you say in your response should have an easily identifiable connection to the job in question.
The company wants to know about you professionally. I would suggest using ChatGPT for ideas. You can copy and paste your past jobs and experiences from your resume.
They want to know what you are as a person that will benefit their companyLike me I've owned three business. They see someone that can get things done. If I said I like to go home and watch TV. You are giving them a feeling of laziness. If you volunteer at church you are good community but might be trouble in such occasions that religion will take you away.
I always tell them about my last job and my experience.
There are at least two approaches to this answer. The first one is in asking them to be more specific. The second, which is the one I would do, is combine your answer to respond to both, but put the emphasis on how it benefited the previous company, and/or how it will benefit the position you are looking to get into.
