It's true that staying too long in a position can work against you. People can get pigeonholed, and management will only regard them as capable of doing what they already do. And yearly raises stuck in the low single digits can be a nagging problem. The way to get a salary bump is usually to move on to another organization.
I totally agree sometimes, a change is necessary for a decent pay rise. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
It’s not that it never works out, there are rare cases where someone rides a very stable role for 15–20 years, gets steady (if modest) raises, great benefits, pension, etc., and ends up doing fine. But those stories are the exception now, not the rule.
So true! Those cases are rare. Most people need to adapt and move on. Change is often the best way to grow. Thanks for your insight!
Definitely. Staying in one place too long is leaving money on the table. Internally, the best you can hope for is maybe a 4% merit increase. External offers routinely come in 10-15% higher. The math makes it a no-brainer.
Exactly! It’s all about recognising your worth. Those external offers can be much better. It’s wise to explore options. Great point!
