Atos/Syntel HR/Manager forcing 3-month notice in 2nd week of probation. No buyout. Legal?

Joined Atos/Syntel a week ago. Got a product offer starting in 5 weeks.

My contract states 6 months probation but completely omits any probation notice period details. HR claims the permanent 3-month notice rule applies from Day 1 because it's not specified, and they are refusing a notice

Can they legally enforce this on a 2-week-old hire? How do I get a clean release in 30 days? Thanks!

it feels like every survey about working from home is (poorly) designed to answer the useless question "would you rather work from home or from the office." I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around.
