I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

FAR
second this. I thought a lot of material in FAR was what you learned in college so knock it out while you're relatively fresh out of college
Start with the part that interests you most or seems easiest to you. I'm in internal audit, so I started with AUD to boost my confidence with an "easy" pass. Just my 2 cents.
Hate audit lol, definitely doing to be my last
I went most difficult to easiest
AUD - FAR - REG - BEC
Last think you want to do is lose a passed score due to the 12 month (or w/e it is) rule
Chief
I started with AUD because it was “easiest” and it was my lowest score by 10+ points lol do with that info what you will
FAR, AUD, BEC, REG I felt like was such a good order. REG pretty much has no overlap with the other 3 so left it for last
I did FAR - AUD - BEC - REG. It worked out well for me - FAR was a beast so I liked taking that without a 18 month window ticking. FAR and AUD are relatively similar - both cover the financial statements, just audit focuses on how do you know the numbers are right. Idk, conceptually it made sense.
BEC I took after that, it was a bit easier and ended up during a busy season.
REG last - I’m in tax, so having more tax returns under my belt I counted as studying as well lol
FAR because it’s the biggest section and will therefore keep the most studying time out of your 18 month window.
Do what works for you but being that it is the largest section, I should take up the most study time regardless of how you approach it.
FAR
Far - reg - aud - bec in order of difficulty... The last two may be interchangeable based on your background knowledge but far and reg , in that order , are the biggest and hardest .... Like others said , the window is what you need to be concerned about ....so many people had to retake exams because of this ....
Yup, this order totally worked out for me. I studied Aud and Bec all together.
FAR if you are very motivated disciplined. REG if you need to get started and get the clock ticking for motivation. I’ve work in tax and REG was an easy one with my work experience.
