You want to maintain the critical thinking portion of the job but would like to see projects through to completion (or possibly you just want to have less travel)
Everyone gives this same answer. So much sounds that recruiters often lead with this as a benefit of moving to industry.
If you are going to give this sort of answer I might focus on wanting to one day own a P&L, specific interest in the company, business line, p&l etc. At least you will be a little differentiated.
I was proved very deeply on this at interview. I started my career in industry but they had a hard time believing I wanted to leave after ~8 years consulting.
I talked about:
- wanting to make GM and needing to make a move before I got to Partner (was c 1 yr away) so that I had time to grow up in industry as well
- wanting better work life balance (was working across multiple continents at the time)
- how amazing the company I was interviewing at was and how I’d been using it as a best practice case study, so now would love to be part of that success story
Great answer! Thanks.
I was in analytics as a client facing analyst.
Definitely travel and lifestyle are good reasons, but I also mentioned that a lot of our clients don't view analytics as a core competency (i.e. We end up doing staff aug), so I wanted to move to a company that did value it as an asset.
You want more business / industry context. In consulting it can be hard to see the big picture and understand why the work you do is actually important. When you’re in industry and work across your organization to deliver a project from start to finish, it can feel more holistic

As with any interview, do research on the company and figure out what you like about them and mention that. Nothing demonstrates genuine interest in a company more than proving you took time to look into the company before interviewing.
Is this a headhunter or a recruiter for a specific company / role?
Thank you!
The truth seems like a solid bet
Interviews are not the time for telling the truth. They are time for selling your best self.
