I’m currently in the process of being converted from contractor to permanent. In my initial conversations I was under the impression that I was in a different pay grade and asked for a salary 25k higher than the max allotted for my position. Any tips for how to better implement feedback on drafts? My work is so heavily redlined that I struggle to consistently follow through with every comment/feedback. I am in patent prosecution, so it is a lot of detailed technical writing, but is also fairly formulaic, which is nice. Thankfully the partner I work with is extremely patient and a very good teacher, I would just like to be better at learning from his very thorough feedback.

I’m an associate in a busy bankruptcy group (just started after a clerkship) and I’ve started to have to to turn down work because I’m too busy (I don’t tell partners no, but say something along the lines of “I don’t think I’d be able to start on that for a day or two”). How much is too much for saying no to work? This week I’ve been billing like 10hrs a day and worked late 3 nights

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

Do you remember when “office closed due to inclement weather” meant you had an easy day at home because remote wasn’t a thing yet? Now with a foot of snow coming, office closed means wfh with no backup childcare available….
