Target gift card. Can't go wrong with letting them pick their own toy.
Lego.
Magnetic tiles (Picasso tiles from Amazon work well)
I always go with books. For that age check out High Five by Adam Rubin, it’s fun and interactive for bedtime. You can pair with another of his books too to hit $25.
Stomp rockets are always a hit with boys that age
I second a stomp rocket and they make them with LED lights now
When in doubt, send them books
When my kids were young I’d send them with a card and $20 cash for gifts to friends. Maybe that’s me projecting my own anxious feelings of so much junky kids toys already in my home that I didn’t want to add to the clutter. But I do feel like my kid gave the “best” gift from the parents perspective. Ha!
I did love when my kids got a gift certificate to our ice cream shop in town. I love the support of a local business (and less junk - see above)
A game the family can play together (Trouble, Sorry, Uno, etc) Just make sure to get a gift receipt in case they already have it.
Spiderman action figure
I’d try asking my kid what the bday boy likes - could give some ideas
Yoto card if they have a player?
Ask the parents what the child likes. Last thing you want to do is to give a gift that the kid already has or it’s too big to fit at home.
Text the parents to ask what the kid likes, ask your kid to ask the kid what they want, have your kid pick something and include a gift receipt
Hoot Owl Hoot - it’s a cooperative board game; easy to find and perfect for that age!
