Costco has a 2005 chateau montelana cab for $170. This is a bit more than I usually spend for a special occasion wine but I’ve had more recent vintages and love the producer. Is this too good to be true or should I pull the trigger next time I’m at Costco

Costco is selling 15 year old wine? When did this happen?

like

Decent price for quality juice with a little age on it. Montelena has great history - watch bottle shock if you pick up the wine

like

That is a very good price. I’m in CM’s wine club.

We love Montelena and have been members for about 5 years in their club! That price is a bit higher than some of the vintage shippers online by $20, but you’d eat up savings in shipping. I’d say go for it!

One additional rec- don’t sleep on their Zin! It’s a great change of pace.

like

Costco has it for $30. I picked one up

like

Did you end up trying any yet? Montelena’s guys reached out for their end of summer stock up and I just bought 3 cases and remembered this exchange. Let me know what you thought if you opened up anything!

I bought a bottle but haven’t opened it yet. I’m going to find out if I’ve been promoted to director in a few weeks and was planning on saving it for then.

Whether I’m promoted or not, it’ll most likely get opened to celebrate or ease the sting

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Greek wine flies under the radar, like this unfiltered Nemea with notes of violet, raspberry, and menthol. A touch hot at 13.9%, it has nice balance and actually some acidity.

Tried this Santorini retailing for $40. Very concentrated but can’t say I was blown away by it. Volcanic terroir dominates almost to the point of obscurity, and it had strong lemon notes, hints of quince, and sea salt. It clashed with Mexican food (hey I knew that beforehand but didn’t think it would clash THAT bad, and usually pair Mexican with Riesling or Gewürztraminer) but I’m going to Greece soon and wanted to drink Greek wine. I drank half at a BYOB, took the bottle home(cont’d)
