I get what you mean, sometimes I find myself getting more emotionally involved in people's complaints than I should be. I try to let everyone vent about whatever may be bothering them and then I will have our conversation end by brainstorming thing that we can do to help them and resolve whatever the issue is. I find that I don't get as upset about these things when our conversations end on a more positive note by trying to find potential solutions.
I let my team take ownership over those problems and ask them what they think should be done to fix it. Most of the time when they think about it they can't come up with how it should be fixed and realize its very petty. I find that now I get less of those petty complaints because they know I am going to ask them what I should do to fix it and they need to have an answer lol.
I really, actually love this. Thank you!
I suppose that's always just a part of becoming involved with resolving conflicts. You need to do it to keep things running smoothly. But there are always going to be people who are not satisfied with the outcome. I think the key is to try to resolve things fairly, and have people understand the reasoning behind the decision. And try to smooth things over as best you can and move on. Ideally, people will understand what happened, and the issue can be put behind everyone.
