Currently entertaining a fantasy that I can ditch client work for good by successfully switching from pharma to game writing. Bring me back to earth or hype up my delusion

Both copywriting in gaming and narrative design are very niche and competitive. If all you’ve done is pharma then I don’t think you’ll have the portfolio needed to break in

However if it’s your dream and you’re willing to start low, you might be able to do it with a spec portfolio

Overall don’t quit your job, especially in this market… gaming is going through crazy layoffs and there are a ton of people with experience that just become your competition.
Instead work on your portfolio on the side, save up money and start networking. You never know and if you make something cool people will give you a shot

Getting into the games industry is likely harder than getting into advertising. Hope you have some good connections!
