Currently working with recruiter to lateral to biglaw. Meantime, a friend/client introduced me to possible position at another biglaw firm. Do I need to tell my recruiter and involve her? I cringe thinking she would get paid for doing nothing if I took this other job.

Depends. Have you used them before, and have they met expectations?

The recruiter may be better positioned to negotiate on your behalf.

Is this other firm definitely your top choice? If not, you may benefit from involving the recruiter without straining your relationship.

If the recruiter has been providing good intel on your other processes, she likely has insight here as well.

You have no obligation to bring her in, of course. Still, if you are already worried about how it may appear, I gather you probably want to maintain that professional relationship.

Yes, I have used her before and she has gotten me two offers at firms. This other firm is definitely my top choice and I have former colleagues that are now there. I worry that bringing in a recruiter will cause the firm to give me less money (bc now they need to pay the recruiter).

Most big law firms simply see partner recruiting as part of their budget. I don’t think it really affects comp considerations at the partner level especially this early in the year.

You could try to ask her to administer a different deal, maybe she gets paid half instead of a full fee (she can work that out with the firm). You are ostensibly using the other offers she got you as leverage so it’s not like her work was all for naught. The firm will want her help getting you over the finish line, and she will be in a position to negotiate aggressively on your behalf.

Depends on how long you want to maintain the relationship with her, really.

I'm in a litigation, about 9 months in. Is it normal that I spend majority of my time making bundles for my partners (printing, binding, moving docs in a different order whenever there are new documents or he wants to add stuff) reviewing documents and making tables (e.g. dates, which documents are from where), and the only legal work is like notices of admission, list of documents, the occasional research? I'm so bored and I want to quit but I don't know if I have unrealistic expectations.
