Toronto ad fish 🤠 I’ve spent most of my career working as a copywriter in London (6 years here, 2 years Toronto) and the market is pretty different here. I’m planning on moving back home but wondered….how do you find work in Toronto? Agencies barely post openings, is the recruiter scene strong? Is it mostly who you know?

I’m a huge fan of Enbridge natural gas distribution company
Not me now getting ads for Enbridge 😆

Who else but rethink even tries in this city. Their topical stuff for ikea and philly even show speed and commitment unlike any other Canadian shop.

99.9% of social advertising is a waste of time and doesn’t impact anyone outside of other advertising people.

@SidLee1 Just because I think social media advertising is mostly a waste of time and not great at brand building doesn't mean I don't understand it. I'd predict that social media advertising is about to go into a massive decline...
Brands will continue to invest in SEO and on Amazon, but media buys will likely shift a lot of their investment from social over to streaming services. Netflix might even bring in ads by the end of this year.
More of the brand building that generates demand will be done with forced view pre-roll commercials on streaming platforms that people watch on their big TVs.
Social media will be home to mostly lower funnel ads trying to close the deal on something you already browsed on Best Buy – or trying to get you to click through and buy something impulsively, like a discounted designer handbag. The work won't require much creativity and will likely go in house, be provided for free by the social platform, or eventually be automated.
So, is social not going anywhere? Debatable.
There’s no shop that just does TV and radio anymore so consider a shop where you’ll have impact vs a shop that’s already killing it on Twitter.
Do you think you'll get a non-sarcastic answer from creatives on here?
The strategist in me will say any engagement’s a good engagement 😆. But hey even if I get one recco that’s better than nothing.
Not sure if it’s still the case anymore, but One Method’s social game used to be pretty standout.
In house social agencies are doing a way better job than agencies
Like who? I can’t think of a single example in of an in-house agency in Canada doing anything even remotely creative.
