Depends on where you live and duration of project. If you have requalified as Diamond, i would do status match and do united or AA. I would not do such a short connection in ATL, nor in DTW during winter...
Don’t live in a hub for any airline and all my lifetime miles/status are with Delta. Project is for 4-6 months. Connections there don’t bother me too much, been going to Detroit and Atlanta the last 4 years in some fashion including winter.
Don’t switch, delta is so much better than any other airline. Assuming you use your points/status for personal use, it’s worth the connection to continue accruing points/maintaining status. Plus ORD has delta sky club.
The ORD sky club is always overflowing and sometimes there is a long line to get into it. So don’t consider it as a factor when you make a decision
I personally love Detroit Metro, the Delta terminal is great and easy (one long line with a tram). Good food options and such if your connection is anymore than gate to gate.
Unless you need to get to B/C where it can be a longer walk.
See if United will match your status; if not, staying with Delta is a no brainer.
Also, research how often the United flights to/from you city are delayed or cancelled.
That’s what I was thinking but wasn’t sure honestly. Good idea on the flight timeliness! American flies direct there too, but I have the same issues. Thanks.
I was in the exact same situation. Switched to American 2.5 years ago and am now Exec Plat with them. No real complaints tbh
Do they do any sort of match/challenge? Don’t really want to start all over again. Thanks!
Try it. Not going to meaningfully affect getting status on the other airline.
ATL and DTW pose connection risk if you have to change terminals. See if it’s workable. If you’re in the same terminal, no discussion; Shine bright like a Diamond
Have to figure out what your time is worth, also considering possibility of delays and missed flights. My guess is your time is worth much more than whatever small intangible benefit exists with sticking with one airline.
Thanks!
