Do biglaw firms acquire your official law school transcript grades in a background check? Or do they merely confirm attendance?

It’s beyond me why firms care about practicing lawyers’ grades, or in more absurd situations, what law school they went to. I know several TTT grads who are fantastic lawyers.

So my thought was - those 10% kids are going to give themselves aneurysms. It looked unhealthy and I don’t think many of them practice today.

A lot of firms will ask for your transcripts at some point in the hiring process, even for laterals...

I've had a firm just confirm attendance and I've had a firm request transcripts. Just depends.

We had evaluations and normally we have annual raises. I think my salary is under market value at $68k (plus OT) in Los Angeles (5 years of experience). I was told I am one of the top employees in the firm. When I asked about a raise, I was told “when you think about it at your level 5k to 10k doesn’t really matter it’s the long term goal that matters”. What would be your response to that, to a partner who is making 500-600k a year?

Just graduated with Aerospace Engineering degree. I am interviewing for multiple positions at once with different companies. One gave me an offer and they want me to get back to them within 2 days. I still have other interviews scheduled and some for higher paying jobs (around 90k) What should I do?
I do like the company that gave me an offer but their base pay was 80k and they went up to 85k. Is asking for them to match the 90k too much? The position is associate systems engineer.

I was at the top of the class in law school and got the highest grade in lots of courses. Ran the law review, order of the coif, etc. But I haven’t felt “smart” since then - it has been several years as an associate now and I feel like I haven’t “gotten it” yet. Not sure if this is normal, or if the occasional passive aggressive comments from partners are building up, or if I am just lame. Anyone else feel like this?
