Do you ever feel that being too polite and always available makes management see you as weak? Sometimes it looks like they think such people aren’t ready for higher roles because a manager “should be less available and more aggressive.” I’m not sure if this mindset is right or wrong. What do you guys think—does being nice at work actually hurt your growth?

There's nothing wrong with being polite, we should all be that. What we shouldn't be is open to being taken advantage of. It's good to set boundaries at work and let people know when something goes over the line. Which can be done while being polite. It's like the old line about the businessman so skillful he could tell someone to go to hell and have them looking forward to the trip.

I really appreciate your way of thinking

Yes I have definitely thought this before. I feel like it makes you a doormat who is always getting stuff dumped on you. They think you won't say anything so they keep piling thing after thing on you.

That’s true

On the flip side, I feel like I am too direct and that seems to be equally frowned upon lol

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice with regards to my next career step. Currently in audit and I have opportunities to go for a Valuations role or an FDD role (both big 4). What are the pros and cons of each? (hours and learning opps, not concerned about salary) Not looking to work long term in both and would likely want to transition into an FP&A role in the future. Hoping to jump directly but require modelling experience.

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

Is anybody here a notary? And how much are you making from that? Is it a potential side-hustle?

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

Does anybody know what the typical salary range is and total comp for someone starting out as an internal or external wholesaler? If you are one of these, can you share about your experience in terms of whether you liked it or not, work life balance, travel, etc?
