Do you have a positive or negative view of your company from an outside perspective? I am fortunate to "respect" the work my company does and can't imagine working for a company who's product/service was looked down upon/hated. For those that feel this way, how do you cope with this and still continue to take passion in your work?

Having recently been one of thousands of employees let go to make way for AI and other business transformation, I view corporations VERY differently. There is nothing to be respected, it's just a money making machine without emotion or compassion. Leaders and colleagues can be respected, but don't for a second think that the company that you respect feels the same about you. At the end of the day W2 employees are nothing more than a number on a spreadsheet.

Microsoft's "voluntary" retirement program is another great example of how even the most tenured and knowledgeable are dispensable.

Why do you have respect in quotes ? Do you respect your company or are pretending to?

I worked for a group of hospitals and I truly respected the care staff could provide patients with but did not respect management or their ability to guide departments to provide BETTER care. So it's a 50/50, hence my use of quotes but I could have done it wrong lol.

I worked at a company which made a controversial medical product. People can say what they want, but I work to put food on the table, not for the approval or verbal validation of others.

Assuming that you can't do the same thing somewhere else, but how often do people Change jobs just for better salary or benefits. Doesn't seem too far fetched for most to take responsibility for their impact on society and improve their circumstances.

There is also perception. Some would say oil companies are bad, but they do some good as well and most people don't understand that. Oil is used to make plastics for sterile health care, drive the economy in an affordable way, keep people with affordable energy before there were many alternatives and until those alternatives are completely reliable and affordable. Some idealistic people would ban them tomorrow out of ignorance.

I LOVED my former position but lost respect for management and on call departments when trying to help users like nurses and doctors and a number of other positions over 3 hospitals.
Say you're on service desk and users get mad at you, you have GOT to remember not to take things personally. It's not you they're mad at, and if it's the product or management providing subpar service, be the light for your customer. Build a repore and help them overcome their frustrations. You can make and company better by being compassionate and patient.

It feels at least your product is something that is good for nurses/doctors even if it frustrates them, so thats good

We were acquired by private equity a few years back, and everything has predictably gone to sh*t: rolling layoffs, shortsighted cost-cutting, offshoring, impossible deadlines, etc... And ofc all this AI psychosis is only ratcheting up the pressure on us. I still love my teammates, but we're frogs in boiling water.

What should I expect if I were either tier 1 or 2? Trying to minimize the salary reduction…
