Do you join virtual interviews early, or wait until right on time? For in-person interviews, arriving early feels obvious. But with virtual interviews, I always debate it. Joining a few minutes early helps me make sure the link, camera, and audio are working, but I also don’t want to sit there awkwardly if the interviewer joins early too. What do people think is the sweet spot? A couple minutes early, exactly on time, or does it not really matter?

On the minute in my opinion, like if it is scheduled for 9am, join 09:00, not 9:01 or 9:02. For me it signals that you care

Agreed, that feels like the right balance. Prepared, but not awkwardly early.

Usually a minute or two early just to make sure I can connect. Sometimes zoom takes a few moments to join a call.

So true. I joined a interview 2 mins early last week and my camera wasn’t working properly, but thankfully I had time to fix it. The interviewer joined right after I got it sorted, so those extra couple minutes definitely helped.

I usually join a couple minutes early. Joining too early feels a little awkward, especially with managers usually in other meetings before the interview time

A couple minutes early feels like the sweet spot to me too. Enough time to deal with any weird tech issue, but not so early that you’re just awkwardly waiting around.

When you look to choosing a position to apply for and lets assume you get to be choosy - will you go for a org with big HR team or smaller HR team? Currently an hrbp for a medium global org with 10 hrbps in the Americas org supporting different groups/ regions like i support canada and a business group - looking at a role where hrbp report to sr hrbp and she reports to Vp of HR. The TA Manager reports to the VP of Hr as well. Sounds like a smaller HR team - are there any benefits to this move?

I started a new job recently and then had my PTSD seriously triggered, plus a panic attack. Felt so on edge and low on emotional resources for over a week that I wasn’t myself and apparently really rubbed a few people the wrong way so I was called in for a talking to 😣. I let people know there were some personal things going on, but didn’t mention the PTSD—very unsure if that’s something to share, or if I’d be judged for it or... I don’t even know. Has anyone else dealt with PTSD and had it impact them at work, and how did you handle it?

No one has asked me specifically about pro bono stuff at my company - if I know there’s no conflict of interest, is this something I should disclose? To whom should I disclose this?
