We usually
Order pizza for sitter and kids and then open pantry policy
Pro
This is exactly what we do... it's easier for the sitter to eat with the kid when we step out.
I usually ask if they need anything before, and they have always said no. And I encourage them that they are welcome to anything they see in the cupboards, etc. So while I do want to be aware that they need to eat during their “shift”, they have always taken care of it themselves. We had one sitter who always brought her dinner with her, and then she started bringing extra dessert to share with the kids! (She was a real gem.)
This tracks with when I was a sitter too - I did not want to eat from the family cupboard myself, and I much preferred to bring my own food if I was going to eat while there.
Open pantry policy and ask if I can order them anything into eat like pizza or uber eats. Never hurts to offer and provide welcoming atmosphere for care providers in your home.
Same. We hyped it up as a pizza party with the babysitter and it’s kind of their thing now.
For babysitting during dinner yes, but we don’t provide lunch for our nanny during the day (although have an open pantry policy)
Yes, we send them a doordash GC or share a doordash cart for them to order.
Yes we buy a few pre-made salads / meals and say help yourself to any of these. Also have an open pantry policy.
We think of our nanny as family…we always plan meals with her in mind (ussualy lunch, she tends to have an early breakfast before coming in the morning and prefers dinner at home). The same for our cleaner and gardners…we always serve them at least a croissant and coffee when they come, if not a pizza or some sort of take away (no “formal” meals for them, like for the nanny)
For non-family sitters, we had an open pantry policy and would offer her something if we were ordering in. Many of ours would join in on the Mac & Cheese or pasta the kids were having. If the grandparents were watching the kids, we’d generally order take out for everyone (my kids aren’t pizza eaters or that would be my choice). For the nanny, she added her preferred lunch items to the grocery list and provided.
