Some people will always do better than you. Sometimes because they’re better than you, sometimes because they hustle more than you, sometimes because they’re more likeable than you and sometimes just because. That very same thought you’re having is being had by someone close to you about your success. You have three choices - 1) let that feeling drive you to hustle more to get ahead; 2) realize that life is what it is - different people will have different paths to success, and some of those will be more privileged than others with nothing you can do about it, ergo, just keep doing you; 3) let other people’s success consume you and overshadow your own… I highly recommend options 1 while you’re young and 2 when you tire of hustling…
^ nice advice :)
I don't think that advanced degrees and prep are the only way to move up. There's something to be said about delivering quality work and being a strong people leader. I feel like when I see older folks stagnate it's usually because they do one of those two but not the other. Though also depends on the org. I found Deloitte performance was a lot of who you know and just being a good culture fit, on top of good overall performance as well.
