What’s a good, practical tax book to read for someone who knows nothing about taxes? I feel like I should familiarize myself with them but don’t know where to start/find the topic very overwhelming and dense even as a finance attorney. Welcome to other beginning finance book suggestions too! (Already read Kiyosaki and Ramsey)

Gifting income to a nephew does not reduce taxable income. Not sure what your friend was thinking.

like

Yeah... perhaps the colleague meant he kept the gift under the annual exclusion for that year so his -nephew- didn’t have to pay taxes on it?

Lower your taxes by sandy botkin. A masterpiece

Thank you! Just ordered ☺️

For what type of taxes? Personal or business? Most individuals don’t have very complicated taxes.

For personal/investment uses. For instance, my friend mentioned that when we were summer associates, he “gifted” his nephew x amount of his summer salary so he could avoid paying taxes on that amount. How could I have learned about that?

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage.

I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest.

Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?

I decalred FBP, and the amount got deducted from my salary.
Now I can see I am eligible for some amount under FabP. What is it and when will I get it?
What exactly is the funda of it?
Let say I am eligible for x amount in FBP LTA. And some y of x got deducted in a specific month, now that y portion is showing in FBP tab to upload the bill.

What if in case I have LTA bill which is exceeding x amount itself, do I need to raise reimbursement request every month th with same bill?

Don’t get scammed. I saw an ad for vending machines that dispense hot coffee, from The Caffeine Dream. Sounds like a cool idea, and they offered placement of the machines for a one time fee. but I asked this “Chris Mateli” where. He was evasive at first and was rude when I had someone with my company call to ask. Eventually he gave me the locations before buying the machines which, of course, I couldn’t verify for placement. They had no idea about these machines because they never ordered them.
