Does anyone feel weird in the DEI space for all the identity politics of representation (which I understand progress is progress!) but it’s still within the system of capitalism because this is still... advertising? - coming from a BIPOC

I’m saying this out of love this is an advertising forum the answers you need are not here. If you’re like me and are just trying to survive in an industry you’re politically at odds with, DMs are always open!

Yea. I’m white, but my politics are left of the liberal center and I’ve been struggling with this all year. I try to keep from being too critical and just be a good teammate to my BIPOC colleagues but the fact that there is a limit to the amount of equity we’re going to achieve as long as the end goal is encouraging consumption.

Sorry, it’s been a week...

I think it's weird that it's 2020 and we're still struggling with this at all, amongst other things.

I'm not sure why utilizing our massive resources to not fuck each other over constantly is so hard. Legacy leadership I suppose.

Maybe I’m just misunderstanding your question, but how are identity politics intrinsically linked to a capitalist system?

To add to this, and maybe answer AE-1, capitalism in general seems to always function on one party exploiting another for monetary gain. For example, forced labor takes place around the world, and exploits the impoverished people of a certain country all so that the civilians of a more wealthy country can have that new sneaker, smartphone, cozy sweatsuit, etc. all which are marketed to the general public by a (usually) non-diverse C-suite.

The change is diversity.....

Ru Paul is still fracking...identity politics mean nothing when anyone with wealth is still capable of committing evil...

I am a young professional... But every job interview I’ve had so far pretty much just wants to know what kind of person I am. They are as interested in my leadership/communication as much as they are in me talking about my experience.

(“Real jobs” in accounting, finance and private equity.)

Is this how it will always be? Or is this predominantly because I am in lower positions at this point in my career?

Boomer. I am in between jobs. Laid off in 10/21 after 16+ yrs, with an ABA firm. RIF. Still on excellent terms. Took my time living off generous package and didn’t seriously start applying until 01/22. Made a rookie mistake and accepted first offer.
Turns out job wasn’t as advertised. Mutual parting of ways 3/22. Due diligence is critical.
Now interviewing a LOT. Some temp work, I still have “it”. I relate to all gens. Willing to mentor AND learn from all. Tech savvy, CTE from day one. Leads?
