Do companies sometimes offer "gifts of appreciation" if you're not selected for a merit increase? My manager randomly called me to let me know I was chosen for the "gift" this year bc of my "hard work & dedication", except now I'm learning other colleagues are receiving actual merits.
I mean it's possible that I may receive a merit, but I feel like I won't considering my manager never brought it up & the dept update made it sound like those receiving it should know by now.

If you’ve only been there a year there might be some type of time period associated with increases or you might have missed the cut off date or something. Just have a transparent conversation with your manager about it.

It’s very important to know the policies. You can also ask the HR department and network with colleagues to gather more information. You might also wanna check with people who have left the company. Even if it’s company policy not to give you a raise at this level, your manager could go to bat for you. So you absolutely need to have this discussion.

So I'm not entirely sure about your situation, but I feel like managers/higher-ups always try to re-assure the employees they manage by saying they are a valuable talent so that they feel appreciated in the company. This could be regardless if you're getting a good raise/bonus or not.

I've had experiences where I've been praised for my work/performance and then received a pretty good raise; then other times I got the praise but not any notable raise/bonus despite my putting my soul into the work.

It might be your year of service gift. Some organizations to monetary or pick a gift catalogs at milestone anniversaries (1, 3, 5, 10 yrs).

I've been at the company for a little over a year, so this would be my 1st exposure to their raise policy/culture. In addition, my manager has constantly praised my work and claimed that I'm valuable talent that the company wants to retain. When I ask during my 1-on-1s how I can improve myself to be a better asset to the team, I'm pretty much told "nothing, you're doing everything great!"

This is the same feedback I've been getting 6 months into the job until now. I've been slowly given more responsibility and am expected to work w/less error, but those expectations are for everyone and was also outlined during the interview & onboarding processes.

Other than that, skill growth has been completely on me. I can take personal initiative to learn/advance in skills required for the job (I am), but they don't have a problem if I don't want to. It's the same attitude towards the rest of the team as well--nobody's expected to advance their skills unless they personally want to.

So why the weird situation w/the raises? Do y'all think maybe they're just being cautious with me bc I'm not a long term employee and aren't sure if I'll stay with them or not? I'm also the only person on my team in my 20s, everyone else is in their late 30s/early 40s or older.

FYI the gift was a <$100 value. Just kind of felt like a joke to be given a small gift if I'm such a valuable asset...or am I just being vain?

Been working at my company as a new grad for almost a year, but don’t see myself in the team that I am in (working with Salesforce) for long term. Interested in frontend dev and have been learning on my own. Manager says chase doesnt have much React opportunities. Is it possible to make a switch when I barely have experience? Are there companies that will hire by seeing that I am willing to learn and am interested in frontend even tho I don’t have much experience with it yet?

Any resume writer referrals? I’m trying to make the jump into project management. I have 13YOE managing cross-departmental projects and people, and I’d like to shed the general EA work of calendars/travel/expenses. But recruiters just see my most recent role is EA and that’s all they want to talk to me about. I’m hoping a better written resume will help target algorithms to get my resume viewed for other roles.

I have an offer for a company abroad. Originally they wanted me to fly out and start the day after Thanksgiving (not celebrated in their country), but because of the holidays I suggested starting in either December or January with the ability to take some holiday days in December to fly back home for Christmas. They then proposed starting out remotely “as soon as possible” in the US as a contractor and then moving abroad to start full time abroad. (Cont)

Hello people, how common is a Amazon to PWC move ?
I’m interviewing for a Senior Associate role and TC seems to be more competitive than role in L5.

TC $114k- Base AMZ- $73k +$38kstocks ( vesting 17k$ due next year)

TC $135k Base PWC -$81$ + Bonuses ( 50k$)

Looking for managerial skills which the PWC role avails, and L6 promo doesn’t seem to be happening soon in current role. I’m also mentally stretched. I hear WLB in PWC is just as busy but can anyone confirm if this move makes any sense. Google Amazon
