Does Davis Polk have non-equity partners? I saw an article saying Ropes and Debevoise are the last hold-outs but haven’t seen anything affirmatively saying that DPW has non-equity partners

DPW promotes everyone to counsel before equity partner

Correct

Winston doesn’t have non equity and doesn’t promote to counsel first.

I saw a Bloomberg video about this on LinkedIn a couple months ago and grabbed this screenshot. 13 out of the Am Law 100 don’t have NEPs

Cooley has NEPs according to law.com

like

There are other firms without NEPs. Covington comes to mind

Even if a firm doesn’t have non-equity partners, that doesn’t mean that firm doesn’t pay some of its partners as low as they would if they had non-equity partners. Give a partner so little units and it’s all the same. It’s just that the firms with non-equity can compute a higher Profits per Equity Partner calculation because there’s less of them.

A4, that’s what Winston does.

A report opened to me that they are having money problems and wants a raise. We are remote and they moved to a high CoL city. We gave an increase to help with retention 6mths ago. In my response, I helped mentor with best practices on how to ask for a raise professionally since I need to make a case to my Head on finances. But their performance has been avg and not seemingly worthy of another large raise within a short period of time. But how do I respond when they talk about personal finances?

Feeling that I never land an offer from Google. I have tried many times and in my last try, I passed phone screening but recruiter ghosted me...
I am not sure what is wrong...
When I apply with referral, my resume always pass screening and shared with managers. But then no response.
When I get feedback on my resume and experience, people always mention "impressive". I feel desperate...Being in less challenging role at Amazon makes everything worse.

To all those in management, how do firms that haven’t instituted pay cuts/furloughs manage to do that? Is it because their clients are still paying the bills, because they are borrowing money, because partners just won’t see profit this coming year? Some combo?

Serious billing question - if during the course of the day, you first receive an email from Client A at say 11:10am and you read it, you then respond to it at 12:20pm. You get another email at 2pm from Client A and respond immediately. The next email comes in at 4pm, you read it and respond only at 4:30pm. None of the email responses take more than 3-5mins. You are working on matters for other clients at all other times during the day. How much are you billing for Client A?

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school
