CTE is part of the union/collective bargaining team. CTE specific items mostly cover pay and hiring. There are pros and cons to being "lumped" in with general ed. BIG CON is the (PD) training that is corp wide. It's always geared to gen ed and a lot of the time is not useful in our environment. If I could suggest one item that is reasonable, prep time. I hear gen ed teachers talk about multiple prep periods and lunch. We have two classes each day. Each class is 2 hours 45 minutes long We get 45 mins for lunch between classes and no prep periods. Any prep period would be before and after the school day ... which is also when all our in-person trainings and meetings are.
I agree, prep time would be very helpful
In our contract, CTE teachers get an extra $750 annually because we plan our own budgets.
If I could speak a “right” into existence, it would be to have a set shop budget each year that I could count on for supplies and equipment. Not an unreasonable demand, dontcha think?
