It is next to impossible to work with the department of information prevention in our district. For a piece of software to be installed, it needs to be approved by the district curriculum committee.
This runs into things like the robotics club, or any other activity that can go beyond the curriculum. For that matter, it took over a semester to get the LEGO IDE installed for the robotics class.
The app store access is also limited to about four apps (well, five, I finally convinced them to allow us to use Grammarly).
The result is that we use a lot of web apps (which is what IT prefers) or, in some cases, I just install the software. I was passed the Admin password by a person in IT who understood the need.
The funny thing was the district Wi-Fi password for the "Staff" Wi-Fi service. The IT department decided, at some point, that it would be easier to maintain it if the teachers did not have direct access to it.
It was installed on the chrome books, as such, they felt we had no need to know it. However, we are expected to use our personal phones for several functions. Frankly, I was unwilling to use my data for uncompensated work-related stuff.
I mentioned that in a class, and later a student came to me and asked if I really needed the password. After I told her that I really didn't have the password, she gave it to me. Yes, I got the Staff Wi-Fi password from a student.
It seems that she was at the school for a summer volleyball camp. While there they were given the password for whatever it was that they were doing.
