Came for 3.5 years and I am now in my last weeks here. I decided to move when 1. I had enough savings to live a good life in Europe, despite the lower salaries, 2. I realized I do not want to live life here long term, therefore need to start building it back in Europe, 3. the job got way harder than when I came (higher pressure on managers to deliver, constant need to "source" your next project, overall bad vibe with all the layoffs). Good luck with your choice!
North American here. Came here 5-6 years ago expecting to be here for 3 years…now I cannot imagine being by anywhere else.
In Europe you get combed out very easily…even at the AP level, exits get you 200-250k EUR per-tax MAX (95th percentile). Post tax that’s 150k EUR. Money, of course, isn everything- but the lifestyle you can have here especially after kids is unbeatable.
I have 0 complaints about this region at this stage as a single person, but isn’t raising your kids here more convenient to you than to them?
Would you want for your kids to be raised in a very transient city with mediocre education, practically hazardous air quality all year round, and no culture?
In my view, kids would be the only thing that moves the pendulum towards leaving.
European here - 2 years and heading back home in the next month because 1. Family & friends 2. Culture 3. Exit opportunities

I am a European citizen so this shouldn't be too much of an issue
