I’m not sure how this will impact this bowl, but it is worth pointing out the need to assess whether there should be concern for those in this bowl. While we all understand ADHD is something attorneys are completely capable of managing with legal positions, not everyone in the field agrees with that. https://joinfishbowl.com/post_va66ztgmkw

Squirrel Hill is nice if you’re looking for a quieter neighborhood. Lived there 5 years and miss it every day!
Lawrenceville is good if you like night life as it’s pretty bustling.
I don’t think you’ll struggle to find something within your price range!
Any questions, send me a DM, happy to answer!
Congrats on your fiancé’s match! So many at UPMC would love to work at Children’s!
I would also recommend the Strip District for an easy commute! Many of my my neighbors work at UPMC.
Lawrenceville and Friendship would be the closest, the former being a former blue collar district turned into a posh neighborhood that gentrified 5-10 years ago, the latter a quiet turn-of-the-century uppity residential neighborhood with Victorian homes.
Shadyside is a mixed neighborhood, gentrified in the 80s, mostly for boomers and maybe GenX. I live in Sq Hill and find it overrated, but the location is good. There are other great residential options like Regent Square, Point Breeze and Highland Park, all within about15 minutes from CHP. That’s where I would look if I did it all over again. East Liberty is actively gentrifying, with all that comes with it. If you are willing to cross a river on your commute, you will save some serious money. The North Side and Deutschtown are the hottest destinations right now. Lots of people prefer the suburbs further up north, like Wexford. However, with a resident schedule at CHP, you will want to hang on to that extra half hour or more. Avoid the Eastern townships along the Parkway; the morning commute is hell.
Thank you for the detailed note. Shadyside is top of the board but definitely going to check out those neighborhoods as well when we visit next month.

Are you looking to rent or buy? And do you have pets?
Looking to rent for the first year. She starts June 12 so everything is happening pretty quickly - no pets.
And what size of home/apartment are you looking for?
Awesome! With no Pets and 2 beds you’ll find a good place anywhere! Tons of recommendations below! Good luck!
Shadyside, East Liberty, Lawrenceville, Highland Park, Bloomfield, and Morningside will probably be your best bets with your budgets. You might be recommended to look at the Strip District, but I personally think it's incredibly yuppie (although a lot of Lawrenceville has gotten to be that way as well, tbh). If you're wanting to be close to the hospital, then Lawrenceville and Bloomfield will be the places to look into first. I like Squirrel Hill but the units there are just painfully outdated for what you're paying.
Squirrel Hill is also pretty far from Children's, compared to the other neighborhoods mentioned.
Congrats to your fiancé and you! And welcome to Pittsburgh. If you’re looking to rent, look at the building Eastside bond, located in Shadyside/East Liberty. A 2 bed/ 2 bath is easy for under $3K and the building has a pool, gym, etc. in a very walkable area! The commute to Children’s is under 15 minutes and it’s a direct drive from the building up Penn avenue.
You can pretty much live anywhere with that budget. Shadyside, lawrenceville is where I’d look. Children’s is in lawrenceville
Thank you all so much! Seems like an affordable city compared to where we are coming from.
You’re correct. Pittsburgh and Boston are similar in that they’re both strong sports towns and both are very strong in medicine and technology. Pittsburgh has a notably lower cost of living and an exceptional restaurant scene too.
That’s awesome to hear. Appreciate the insight
We ended up renting a place in Bloomfield! Going to see which neighborhoods we like and try to buy in 2024. Thank you all for the help.
Thank you all for the responses. Since we have lived in expensive dumps throughout Boston we are sort of leaning towards the strip district with the newer apartment buildings. Places like this in Boston are easily 4k+ a month so the thought of living in a newer building never even crossed our minds. The charm of shadyside and squirrel hill do seem nice though
Oh yeah, you can absolutely rent a brand new, upscale place for your budget.
