Just quiet quit or go on fmla. Way easier to look for a job while employed.
Can someone explain to me why secondment is a bad idea? It seems like a great opportunity to develop a relationship with a client.
Yeah I’d be stoked about a secondment, personally.
What are you planning on doing? You do you.
Taking a career break to figure out what's next. Potentially going to a small firm or government, or pivoting altogether to a law adjacent position.
Are you sure you wouldn’t even consider a secondment? I just went in house and had asked for a secondment while I was in big law, but it never materialized. I really wish it had because being in house is very, very different from private practice and it will give you a different perspective.
It’s also typically 9-5 so it would give you the breathing room you need, without taking a pay cut. You can use that time to figure out what you want and quit after you get back. I know many people who were on their way out, were sent on secondment to get a break/refocus, and ended up leaving after the secondment was up.
The secondment is part time? How is that LESS breathing room? Secondments are absolute gems in biglaw. They give you in-house/business experience for your resume, pay well, and are WAY more chill. Take the secondment and leave after.
