Is it easy for engineers to become TPMs?
I recently interviewed with MITRE for a systems engineering role to make the move from Leidos where I feel underpaid for the work I do and for my experience ($85K). I have 4 YOE, a STEM degree, and soon will have a Masters Degree. I’m looking to make around $120K in the new role at Mitre. Does anyone have any insight into comp there? This would be in the DC metro area. Does $120K seem reasonable or am I dreaming?

Break-even is the goal. Converting to shares in a Series A is also acceptable. $10k-$100k for something I think is smart. Have also traded blocks of hours for shares. But really, I just enjoy the process of helping people build stuff.
Second the above. Can't really go into it expecting amazing returns, but if that happens its a bonus.
Invest as if you're giving your sibling a loan that they'll probably pay back for you won't be mad if they didn't.
Just has to be something that (a) you really believe in and (b) that your investment is more than just about keeping them afloat.
Ideally, it's something where your experience can help them navigate.
Examples:
* Founder has a piece of tech that you think is potentially game changing and you want to help them navigate the patent filing process and give them some money/runway to pursue that.
* Founder needs to make a strategic part-time hire but has no cash for payroll for more than themselves and has no experience hiring. You'll not only fund that body, but also help ensure they hire the right person.
* Founder needs advisory to help them chase a series A. They've never done it, but you have and you have a lot of relationships. You volunteer your network and hours to help them prep and get in front of these investors in exchange for shares.
Still getting my feet wet but the firt two investments I made have both 2x so I think I set the standard pretty high but also understand that this is not the norm
