For litigators at V10s, when did you get to take your first non-pro bono deposition?

Broadly, at what year should you expect to move from doing doc review, research for briefs, and fact development to taking depositions and getting to actually take the pen on the brief writing for larger case teams. As a third year, all of my substantive writing work has come from leanly staffed teams, and unfortunately, most of my cases are not leanly staffed (probably because of the nature of V10 cases?)

I was a sixth before I took a billable depo. Just the way things shook out. I just wasn’t on matters where associates could take depos (even assocs senior to me) between years 2 and 6. Was mostly an MTD machine in my 4th and 5th years. It happens.

I did have the lead pen on briefs by 3rd, meaning I’d supervise a full motion and send direct to the lead partner, even on large motions with multiple assocs under me, but I’m a decent brief writer. Would be normal for that to happen a bit later for many folks.

Wow? That’s awesome. Maybe I need to lateral because I’m not aware of any mid-level in my office who has taken a dep.

What should I do in a scenario where I was hired (12+ years) with far less salary than(~20% less) than other members (4+ experience) in team and asked to take 80% of team's responsibilities. The hiring manager low balled me sensing that I am in dire need of that job and now I am stuck for 2 years now. The company is a big shot but I am literally getting paid less than what I used to make 10 years ago. Should I try to move within or look outside?

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart
