I’ve had this come up before (I’m a video editor) and normally it’s because they’re lumping me in with production contracts. Usually when I raise the question they’ve agreed I don’t need workman’s comp on myself. So it’s worth asking to see if you can get it removed from the contract.
Totally. Workers comp on just yourself can be a little overkill, are you going to sue yourself? you can also check your state’s laws to see if it’s required. Sometimes in the contract it says workers comp coverage as required by state law and if your state does not require it for business owners / single person businesses you are technically complying with state WC law.
