Fresh grad with business degree (marketing), current job pays 3k (client services executive). The pay is low but culture and people are great. My dad keeps pestering me to change job to a higher pay but I want to learn as much as I can in this current job since I only joined 3 weeks ago. I also want to take courses on ui/ux design and build my portfolio first before trying for a career switch sometime next year. So I'm a bit conflicted on whether I should follow my father's advice, any thoughts?

Don’t listen to your Dad - continue to stay, grow, learn, and at least hit the one year mark so your CV has credibility. You’re young still, the money will compound in due course.

3K for a newly minted grad in marketing is market rate. Be a sponge and learn everything can for this first year and build your portfolio — it will pay off with more money and responsibility. I’m sure your dad is well-meaning but unless he’s a retired marketing whiz, he needs to let you live your own life.

Stay for a year and switch.

questions -
1. where did you attained your business degree from?
2. is this an agency/SME you’re in? 3k sounds like it is below market rate for undergrad, though it depends if you’re open to comms sharing etc

if not, general advice is stay for a maximum of 1 year while keeping your options open and take your UIUX courses on the side if possible

I got my business degree from SMU. Yep the pay is definitely way below average for an SMU graduate (that's if the employment survey is even remotely accurate), and slightly below market rate in the industry. It's an SME but has various offices in S.E.A and India. For an account executive, I guess 3-3.3k is the norm. Not great but at least I get paid something

I love consulting and have financial safety doing what I do today but I sure do miss the adulation, applause and life-energy the stage brought me. It was just…so adrenaline inducing.

No, career pivot is not an option. Prepping myself for a mid-life crisis in a few years. Already off all kinds of social media because it hurts to see all the mediocre people getting famous (Sorry for the hubris).
