On average 16-20 hrs for me. In the software space.
I sat down one Friday at 10pm with a beer and cranked out an urgent software application in 7 hours. Next morning it looked pretty damn good.
Depends on subject matter. For simple mechanical, single embodiment, probably 5-10 hours. For software, when the client tells me they have 3 different inventions, probably 15-20.
Sometimes I let the client set a budget, or I'll set a range and a cap.
15-30h chemical/chemical engineering subject matter
Wildly variable based on subject matter and budget. Study the inventors materials and records, do a good search, draft claims (at least claim 1), define terms and make an outline.
I can’t draft an application under 20 hours. It generally takes me 40 hours to understand the disclosure, discuss the invention with the inventors, and draft the whole thing. I guess it depends on client expectation and the quality of the disclosure documents.
~30 hours for semiconductor topics, including interview with the inventors & understanding the invention.
Highly variable depending on the quality of the invention disclosure and the client/inventor's desire to make edits/tweaks after the first draft. I'd say most US apps are an 8-15 hour ordeal.
