I was in core tax in PA. Left to industry where I got “exposure” to international tax work. Then when I left my industry job to go back to PA it was in the international tax SL - which is a higher paid specialty group (with lower charge hour quotas). I don’t have a legal background or graduate degree. I literally wouldn’t have gotten this opportunity if not for that exposure.
Any tips on finding a position like this? I left a great small firm with great clients, where I did international tax full time, to pursue better pay but I’ve struck out with two firms I’ve tried out that advertised themselves as having a bunch of international work but one was a 5471 factory and the other had maybe 3 international clients and had me working on s corps the majority of the time. I’d love to get back to international tax work but starting to feel like I’m being catfished by these firms when they look at my resume just to sell themselves lol.
In the cases I’ve seen, it means exposure to higher level management and being involved in those discussions. As a manager in tax in industry, I sometimes present to the CFO, CEO of my job. A 10+ billion dollar company. That exposure helps your career move along faster than it normally would have.
Why should u care about something in a job description? I guess u don’t have to…
