If you know a couple of people who will be attending, let them know you’re nervous and this will be the largest group you’ve addressed. Ask them if you can use them as a point to look at to help redirect your nerves. You will find many will be happy to support you.
Hopefully you see this beforehand, but you are right, you need to do this to grow, so kudos for you for volunteering. Given your nerves, I'm sure you're super prepared, which is great! Some folks will tell you to picture them naked or as little kids, and that works for some.
For me, I keep in mind that the audience is there because they *need* or *want* to hear what you're saying. I've found being enthusiastic and passionate creates engagement and then people start leaning forward on their chairs, smiling and nodding and asking questions.
I learned this from a colleague early on. We had to teach classes and we were graded on attendance. She always had the highest attendance, so I started going to her classes to see what she was doing. She was happy, confident in her knowledge, animated and fun. I started acting like her - fully faked til I made it and it worked. I stole her students 😂
