Not concerning at all. Those programs are highly problematic. Giving opportunities to some and not others based on race, gender, etc.
But study shows DEI doesn’t actually benefit minorities, the only group that benefits from this is white women.
Never understood the role of a DEI person at a company. Seems like a waste of money to me.
What is concerning about it?
Racial bias and racism still exists today. To think otherwise is just....shows your privilege, ignorance and unconscious bias in yourself. Thay said, the importance of DE&I programs were to HELP level the playing field. Be the auditor for HR, in a sense. Look at the hiring, interview, and promotion (as well as other) metrics to see if it made sense for the population. Also, yes, being intentional on hiring diverse candidates as research has shown that diverse teams perform better. So why would you NOT want a diverse team?
Marking white vs AA on an application, today, in 2024, with the same resume, credentials and experience, and having a stereotypically white vs black "sounding" name, makes a difference in getting a callback and/or interview still.
THAT is the importance of DE&I programs as these large institutions. Now, if they still have the programs/accountability/checks and balances in their company and are just "doing away" with the dedicated departments to run it, then I'm all for it. But to say it's not needed in the current social environment that we are still in, is just out of touch with other people's reality and lacks empathy. I mean, another innocent, unarmed black woman was murdered by police this week and yet yall are still in doubt that the country as a whole has an issue with systematic racism. You're the problem.
The company policies will always exist
