Had a discussion involving several people from several states last weekend regarding various types of educational formats; religious, classical, public, virtual, home school, etc. Personally I haven’t seen one yet that works for every single kid and that all have their pros and cons. The ones arguing for classical and religious seemed more passionate about those approaches with fewer drawbacks. Thoughts?

The option that offers the most opportunities for the largest group of kids is public education. While there are certainly drawbacks, what we do in this country is truly remarkable given the huge discrepancies in demographics, geography, and socioeconomic groups we deal with.

Are there individual situations where private/religious/classical/homeschooling would be better for that specific kid? Of course. Unfortunately those aren't available to every single student, even under the best voucher programs we've come up with.

Public education is available to all kids, all of the time.

Well said

I once met an experienced teacher who once said to me in a kind of Delphic oratory, "Kids are kids." She was responding to me wondering if I could teach 3-5th graders when my experience was my student teaching at the high school. I have had the experience of teaching, inner city, public, Christian private, charter, large, small, over crowded, grade school, Middle school, High School, Math, Social Studies, and unbelievably English. Her wisdom comes, through every student is unique with own backgrounds they have have the same needs: to be heard, be safe, be fed, to have someone who sees their value, and to have their curiosity fed. When those needs are met all education is possible when those needs are not met, learning is impossible.

Don’t forget CTE (career technical education). What used to be the red headed stepchild of education is now one of the most in demand and successful educational formats. In MA, we have over 8000 kids on waitlists to get into vocational programs. I teach Biotechnology, and all of my graduating seniors are going on to college for STEM majors, many with full or partial scholarships.
Those students have the equivalent of 2 years practical lab experience and professional industry credentials, which will give them significant advantages in their lab courses and when they apply for internships.

Need help. I have $13k saved for my kids age 6, 9, 10 in just a high interest savings account which actually decreased to only .50APY. Looking to move it or do something with it to help it grow more than a few bucks a year. What are my options? Not sure if they'll go college route or where life leads them. I'll be adding approximately $300/month this year to the savings.

Hi! I am a pharmacy technician trainer in New England and I'm interested in salaries in Virginia. Currently up north, I make $26.11/hr to train new techs and pharmacists and have received a raise every year since 2019. Is this there anything even comparable in VA? I have 3 years experience and an associates degree in health science. Is it even worth looking?

How have you combated your fear of rejection? I fixate on such small things as when my friends, for example, reject plans I have made. This definitely makes me more averse to putting myself out there and makes me ruminate on past perceived failures, which are clearly not good for personal growth
