For some clients it isn’t the right thing though? I am a hardcore activist but like... if your client has done nothing ever to give them the right to show support and they aren’t planning to take action beyond a social post, they might as well sit this one out.
I would also add that if they are simply going to say something versus do something, it might be better that they just keep quiet. In times of crisis, I always recommend the 3 Bs approach (be kind (words), be helpful (actions), or be quiet.) In this case being kind might actually backfire.

Yikes. This is why diversity in leadership matters so much.
Depending on who the clients are and if you have the energy, I’d show examples of similar brands who have released their BLM statements versus the ones who haven’t (including actions taken) and the responses these brands have received.
Also reminding them that sales strongly correlate with brand’s mission & values. If the client goes silent, customers are watching and will be judging.
It’s messed up that you need to put so much extra effort to tell your leadership why these unethical human issues need to be called out across every industry, but unfortunately many white & non-black POC don’t get it.
Those are just my opinions, good luck!
I’d be interested in their rationale. There’s a lot of empty words and sentiment right now, and people WILL sniff right through it.
I’d want to know what qualifies the brand to speak in the first place before recommending any type of communication. Weighing the pros and cons about speaking up versus not speaking up. Screw what other brands are doing: who are the clients and who are their clients, what are their values, what does their executive board look like, what’s their track record, what are their plans internally to address the issue.
Don’t add to the noise just to be present. That’s bad branding.
