Has anyone else experienced a workplace where emotional resilience was quietly expected but never acknowledged? It felt like handling tension, conflict, and uncertainty became part of the job description, even though it was never named. How did that impact you over time?

Yes, I have experienced it very often

Isn’t it frustrating?

Over time, it really wears on you. Every day is a huge struggle going to work, and then I found it bleeding into my home life, too. That’s when it really dawned on me how much the toll is.

That bleed into home life is such a real turning point. When the stress doesn’t clock out with you, it stops being “just work” and starts becoming a health issue.

For me, that was the moment I realized resilience shouldn’t mean absorbing everything silently. It’s not sustainable when the toll follows you through your front door.

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?

Hear that appraisals happen for an employee every year around the first ever joining date. Is this true? And, does performance review happens with your manager or how does it work ?

So the question has been asked a few times in the main Big Law bowl but keeps getting derailed into a political issue. As someone with a more conservative disposition anyway I'm interested in the day to day of life and work in Texas as opposed to NYC (or similar).

So, what are the pros and cons of living in Texas and working in Texas Biglaw?

I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.

I’ve worked at places that all have different holiday policies. EA has at minimum a nice 10 day shutdown from Christmas Eve through New Years. It’s great to know that there will be no slack messages or an exploded inbox to come back to while away. I’ve been at other studios that only give you Christmas Eve & Day and New Years Eve & Day and then the rest is up to you to request for PTO and this is obviously the suck.

Wonder what it’s like for you?
